A lot of freelance jobs on the internet are geared towards technical types, but not all of them! In addition to the usual requests for programming, website design, or software installtion projects, you will find work for writers, data entry people, artists, translators, administrators, researchers, and even legal investigators. Many of these jobs can be performed online, and so you do not have to live, or ever visit, the location your employer works in. I myself, have performed online freelance work for clients in different US states, and even other countries, without ever meeting my clients except through email, chat, and telephone!
Also consider offline freelancing jobs that can be found on these listing sites. Truck drivers, health care workers, nannies, trainers, teachers, and a variety of other skills are asked for on a freelance contract type basic.
If you do not have the exact skills to obtain these type of jobs, you may be able to find some speedy training. Some postings require a person to be local, but they can be performed with on the job training. Go ahead and look around. You might be surprised to find that your skills will suit the jobs in a popular freelancing job very well!
We have to thank FreelanceSwitch for publishing a huge list of freelance job sites. The freelance sites operate differently, but you will have plenty to check out. Many are free, but require registration to post. Some charge a fee, so it is your responsibility to make sure the service is worth it. Sometimes it is, because you do get what you pay for, but sometimes websites charge for the same information you really could get for free somewhere else.
Also, some work by posting projects and having companies bid on the jobs, and some just post a fixed amount the company will pay. Some jobs pay by the hour or month too, and if they require travel, could include a per diem. Just go spend a few hours exploring the richness of freelance work online! Enjoy!
